| Dennis
Shields
finds colour a magical source for his art. His "experience of
conscious exploration and renewal within the world of colour"
affirms for him the oft-quoted lines of J.W. Goethe that, "colours
are the results of the deeds and sufferings of light." Prior to
entering the School of Painting at the Rudolph Steiner Institute
in Switzerland in 1973, he toured the famed art museums of Great
Britain, Holland and Italy. Born in North Vancouver, Dennis eventually
returned to the West Coast, where he takes his inspiration from
his natural surroundings. In addition to Sooke Harbour House,
his work is displayed in the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria's
Art Rental and Sales. |
