On of the finest Art Galleries on Vancouver Island

Edith, Victor and Carey Newman are a renowned artistic family. Carey opened the Blue Raven Gallery in 1996, not only to showcase his limited edition prints but also the prints and carvings of his father Victor, and the native fashion designs of his mother, Edith. While most of Carey's creations are commissioned by private collectors, he has done work for corporations, government agencies and museums around the world. Of his 28 limited edition prints, 17 have sold out. He is also an accomplished musician in piano and voice and performs solo roles with Pacific Opera Victoria. Of Kwagiulth and Salish descent, Victor Newman has a strong heritage in native art; his great-grandfather, Charlie James, was a master carver. Carey and Victor have started work on a totem pole for the waterfront garden of Sooke Harbour House. It will incorporate all the elements of the Philip family crest: sea gull, wild goose, jasmine flowers, cedar, wolf and whale. Victor's artwork can be found in private and public collections around the world. An accomplished fibre artist and clothing designer, Edith Newman is of British heritage and does not feel comfortable creating the native designs for her clothing. Instead she explains her concept to her husband and son, who assist in interpreting her visions into native designs. Her work has been displayed in Italy, Paris and Toronto, and is in personal wardrobes world-wide. Edith's specialty is custom-designed clothing .
