Aivars Logins, carving, Sooke Harbour House art gallery

Aivars Logins has a unique ability to reveal the inner beauty within the grain, textures and irregularities of wood. All of the wood in Aivars' works is native to the Sooke area; much of it is considered logging waste and destined to be burned. He rescues these leavings and in his oceanside studio, creates beautiful bowls, boxes, platters, mirrors, kitchenware, burled furniture and carvings of the highest quality. All pieces are finished with a non-toxic beeswax or 100% pure unrefined tung oil, to retain the natural beauty and patina of the wood. His artistry and passion for wood have made his work known and collected around the world. Aivars is currently carving a loveseat from a seven foot diameter Western Red Cedar burl which is 800 years old.
