Kimiko specializes in the medium of Nihonga, traditional Japanese painting. Instead of oils, the Nihonga artist uses powdered, organic mineral pigments that are bound to Japanese parchment with a natural glue. Kimiko prefers floral subjects but has also done extensive work in landscape and figures. She has completed a 12-painting series depicting the flowers of each month in Japan and is now at work on a similar series for the flowers of British Columbia. Before moving to Canada in 1997, Kimiko was awarded first place from among approximately 250 entrants at the Tokyo Kodaira Art Show in 1996.
