| Wally
Head
feels he cannot explain his newfound talent to create lasting
artworks in stone; he considers it a gift. And it was only when
major surgery forced Wally into early retirement from the pulp
and paper industry that he began to discover his talent. It was
his interest in lapidary, wood carving, prospecting and rock-hounding
that drew him to stone carving. Eventually he settled on soapstone
as his medium of choice. This material, with its spiritual feel,
has allowed the artistic gift to flow through his hands. Wally
has also created concrete cast artworks, which he hand-finishes
and produces in limited editions. Some of these creations can
be found in the gardens of Sooke Harbour House. |
