| Kerry
Gortan
grew up in a small community on Vancouver Island, where he learned
to work with wood from his father. This skill was to remain a
constant in his life. As a teen, Kerry made handcrafted furniture,
and when he was older, he worked as a carpenter. Gradually, Kerry
began to explore other aspects of wood, through carving and sculpting.
He enjoys making West Coast art such as masks, totem poles and
stone sculptures. Upon request, Kerry also creates family portrait
totem poles and portrait masks. His work is sold at Sooke Harbour
House and he has exhibited at recent Sooke Fine Arts shows. . |
